Who we are
Worship is at our core.
10:00AM - Service | 11:00AM - Coffee Hour
What to Expect on Sunday
Expect the unexpected. Spirituality, community… coffee.
St. Matthew was an unrefined thug who changed his life and followed Jesus. St. Matt’s PDX is kind of like that.
We are a liturgical community. That means we worship with everyone participating. We value tradition and are open and affirming to everyone - both inside our church and out in the world.
We like to do things a little different than what’s expected. On a Sunday morning you can expect to see all different kinds of people, brought together by their love for God, praying with their whole beings. It’s not always comfortable. It’s not always easy...
It is always authentic and real.
Q: What should I wear to church?
A: Anything you want. This is Oregon, so probably nothing too fancy. This is Portland, so don’t come looking too normal either.
Q: What time does church start?
A: Church starts at 10 am and usually lasts about 70 minutes.
Q: Is there a place for my kids?
A: Yes!! We have facilities for children nursing age on up.
Q: I don’t have kids. Is there a place for me?
A:Yes!! St. Matt’s is made of people with and without children, people partnered and single. You don’t have to fit a specific mold to come inside.
Q: Do I have to believe in God?
A: No. St. Matt’s is a Christian community based on the teachings of Jesus and we have people in our community that are atheist and agnostic. We are a group of spiritual seekers that have more questions than answers.
Q: Can I be involved… just not on Sunday morning?
A: Absolutely!! Contact us and we’ll keep you in the loop around other things happening. If you have a desire, we’ll help you plug in.
What we believe
Our faith community affirms the Apostles Creed or the Nicene Creed at each of our worship services. These ancient statements of faith represent the basic tenets of our Christian faith.
Individually, we each bring our own understanding of who God is, how the Spirit is moving through our lives, and how we can look to Jesus as our companion along the way.
Collectively, we join one another at Saint Matthew's to share our perspectives, to give thanks for God's abundant blessings, and to witness the reality of God working in and through our relationships.
